200th ISOCer joins our ranks!

I am extremely excited to announce that CO ISOC has crossed another membership milestone recently and now has over 200 members! While having 200 members is exciting in it’s own right, I am even more enthused because of how fast we are moving.

CO ISOC was founded in January of 2008 by two friends and 25 supporters. Over the next two years we grew to over 100 members. Now, in just over 6 months we have doubled our size by adding another 100 members! Congratulations and thanks to all!

I would like to again take this opportunity to seize this milestone as another re-invigoration point. Now that our numbers have grown to such a respectable level I want to ask you all for two things:

  1. Keep the momentum going! Let’s keep growing. “CO ISOC seeks to harness the great resources of this region in order to perpetuate the open evolution of the Internet for the advancement of human knowledge and communication, here in Colorado and around the world.” Recruiting members is the most direct way to harness those resources. We are obviously doing a great job of it now and we need to keep up the great work! To do that, I am going to again ask that every member of CO ISOC to send an email right now to 10 people who live in or near Colorado and who believe that the Internet is for Everyone. The template which I have shared before is included below. Feel free to send it as is, modify/personalize it or write up your own messages from scratch.
  2. Get engaged! Now that we have over 200 members, I have to assume that we have a ton of talent in our ranks. I also know that with 200 members, we can all do a little bit individually and get a lot done collectively. Start with the Super Easy stuff like subscribing to the blog, joining the Facebook and LinkedIn groups, follow us on Twitter, etc. Next check out our Internet Users Best Common Practices project on the wiki – and help out! Don’t be shy, jump in and get your hands dirty! Also, join the Meetup group and start coming to the meetings. Interested in TLDs, registries, registrars and ICANN? We are now an ALS, so we need your input – contact me directly for more info or watch the blog for opportunities to participate. Want more? Great! We will be holding elections in early 2011 and need volunteers for many positions. We also need blog writers, meeting planners, video editors/producers, and tons more. Let me know what you are good at or what you want to work on – very likely the job is yours!

I hope that you are all as excited as I am!

Here is the invitation email template, send it to 10 fellow Internet lovers right now!
